35. Largest comet vs Earth

Today we are going to talk about one of the largest comets ever found, the Bernardinelli-Bernstein comet. It has been spotted heading towards Earth!!!! But, it is not going to hit Earth and be the end of life's existence. It will pass by the orbit of Saturn and have a long tail, made from ice melting off it as it gets closer to the sun. But just for fun, let's talk about what would happen if a comet collided with Earth.

Speeds Of Earth And The Comet

These group of comets can reach speeds of up to 200 km per second. show off. Earth goes 30 km per second and 67000 mph. The fastest race car went 315 km per HOUR. Space shuttles go 1 km per second. so that is 30 times the speed of the space shuttle! and for the comet, 200 times the speed of the space shuttle!!!!

Differences of Comets and planets

The comet has weaknesses. If it smashes into a terrestrial planet, it kills itself! But, it has weapons that could wipe out life for millions of years to come. Besides that, it would just leave a crater on the planet. Or if you like to call it this, a mark.

Earth has multiple shields, unlike any other planet does. it has the moon, and the atmosphere, that protect it more if it dodges the moon. I think that is a topic for another blog! Most meteors only get through the memosphere. You can remember that because "memo" sounds like meteor!

Lots of Shapes

Planets and comets have different shapes. A comet is just a shiny piece of rock that travels through space. It is a regular shape for an asteroid. Spikes and weird valleys everywhere.

Earth is a little bit like this, but it is not crazy and going everywhere. it is spherical. Just like any other planet, even the gas planet, Jupiter. Jupiter's strong gravity holds in it's gas around the core. It creates a balance between the magnetic field and the core

What if? A Future fight

So who would win if this was actually going to happen?? most likely Earth, We would protect it from the comet with our technology. Plus, Earth has many impact zones. it could of landed in the chicxulub crater? Or even in the pacific ocean. you would never know.
