36. The Drake equation

The Drake equation is an equation that estimates how many planets in the milky way or universe. The question, life on other planets has left scientists and even the smartest people scratching their heads. This is blog 36 on the Drake equation, coming up next

Now, let me get this straight, the Drake equation is NOT a normal maths equation. The drake Equation is:

I know that this seems complicated. But, it is very simple compared to other big equations. It is trying to figure out the chance that there is a alien civilization that we will be able to communicate with.

  • N means the number of civilizations we could communicate with.

  • R* is the time of which stars are forming in the galaxy.

  • Fp means the fraction of stars that even have their own planets!

  • Ne means the amount of planets that can support life.

  • Fe means the amount of planets that can develop life!

  • Fi is the planets life is intelligent, Like us Humans.

  • Fc is the amount of intelligent civilizations that can form ways of communication.

  • L is the length of time these civilizations can communicate.

Who is drake?

Frank Donald Drake is an amazing astronomer as well as a astrophysicist. He discovered amazing deep space things and lots of Equations and he still is doing this stuff today! He is involved with the search for extraterrestrial life, and life that has capabilities of communicating in general. See more on frank drake

Drake hosted a search for extraterrestrial intelligence meeting on detecting a radio signal. This was from a radio dish called The Alien-Life Summit The meeting was held at the Green Bank facility in 1961. The Drake equation was named after Drake because of that very meeting.
