Updated: Oct 5, 2021
Saturn is the most distant planet that can be seen with the naked eye. This means you don’t need a telescope to see Saturn! Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun and the second largest in solar system from Jupiter. It is 116,460 km wide!
Saturn was known to the ancients’ which means it has been known for a LONG time. in fact, it has been known to people for more than 10000 years! But they didn't know about the rings until galileo, the guy who discovered the galilean moons of jupiter, looked at saturn with his telescope. he looked at it and it had rings! it was a historical find.
Saturn is the only planet in the solar system with rings that can be seen with the naked eye. These rings are made from dust and icy chunks of rock. It was believed that a very very large moon smashed into saturn. saturn ripped it up and it formed a ring.
There are 7 rings to see around saturn. They are called the A ring, B ring, C ring, D ring, E ring, F ring and the G ring. it is so amazing to look at them. Jupiter has only 4 rings. poor jupiter. But, uranus has more. it has 13. neptune is one less than saturn with 6 rings.
saturn has 82 moons. there names are Titan, Enceladus, Mimas, Hyperion, Lapeus, Dione, Tethys, Pan, Rhea, Daphnis, Phoebe, Epimetheus, Saturn LVIII, Janus, Prometheus, Methone, Palline, S/2004 S 13, Albiorix, Telesto, Polydeuces, tarqeq, Paaliaq, Erriapus, Bebhionn, Bestla, S/2007 S 3, S/2006 S 1, Narvi, Atlas, S/2009 S 1, Pandora, Aegaeon, Anthe, S/2007 S 2, S/2007 S 2, Greip, Skathi, Ijiraq, Hyrrokkin, Kiviuq, Helene, Thrymr, Hati, Calypso, Fenrir, Aegir and fornjot. that is all the named ones!!!
