6. Jupiter
Updated: Oct 1, 2021
Jupiter is the BIGGEST planet in the solar system! if you wanted to fill Jupiter with earths you would need 1300 earths to fill the whole Planet up! that's a lot. Fun fact: Jupiter is 2.5 times as massive as all the planets in the solar system combined!
Jupiter cannot become a star. It’s a planet man! But in the early days of the solar system it almost came a star and almost was going to orbit the sun and the sun would orbit jupiter. But, Jupiter is the fastest spinning planet in the solar system! it spins so fast that a day on jupiter is 10 hours. Earth's days are 24 hours long.
The clouds on Jupiter are 50 km thick! The biggest storm on Jupiter is called the great red spot and its been there for more than 300 years because of jupiter's gravity.
Jupiter has rings. Scientists have found 4 rings around the planet and they wonder if there are anymore. Astronomers think that the rings are there because of the magnetic field. But, that would be highly unlikely because Jupiter’s magnetic field is 14 times stronger than earth!
Jupiter has 79 moons. here are the 69 that are named: Europa, Ganymede, Io, Callisto, Amalthea, Valetudo, Himalia, Adrastea, Carme, Pasiphae, Thebe, Mentis, Ananke, Elara, Lysithea, Sinope, Callirrhoe, Eirene, Eupheme, Kalyke, Themisto, Philophrosyne, Carpo, S/2017 J 4, Ionone, S/2003 J 2, Cyllene, Iocasta, Harpalyke, aitne, Chaldene, Euporie, S/2003 J 12, Megaclite, Taygete, Autonoe, Aoede, Eukelade, Erinome, Eurydome, Arche, Hegemone, Hermippe, Herse, Euanthe, Heike, Jupiter LIX, Jupiter LIV, Praxidike, Thyone, and Dia.
It takes Light to travel from the sun to Jupiter about 43 minutes! Light goes 299,792 km per second, so Jupiter is a LONG way from the sun! in fact 767.83 million km away!
Only today, scientists have published new research on what Jupiter's South pole looks like and the mysterious geometric spots. Look at the spots in this picture from phys.org
Wow learnt so much from this passage you are such a talented boy
I find it amazing to think that light travels almost 300,000km per second (7.5 times around the world), but it takes 43 minutes to reach Jupiter, and humans have sent spacecraft there and sent back. Not only that, Jupiter is so big we can see it without a telescope. That is very cool.
I have updated this blog to tell you about the mysterious geometric spots on jupiter.
