4. Mercury

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Its surface can reach 800 degrees Fahrenheit at daytime but, Because the planet has no atmosphere to keep that heat, nighttime can drop to -290 degrees Fahrenheit!

Mercury is the 2nd hottest planet in the solar system, with the planet’s surface reaching 800 degrees Fahrenheit which is 427 c.

Mercury orbits in an egg-shaped way. Mercury’s orbit is the most eccentric orbit in the solar system!! If mercury got any closer to the sun it would burn up because its 1.4 million miles from the sun. Remember, if anything got into 1.3 million miles from the sun it would burn up!

Mercury is dead. there is no life on it. not even a weed if you went to mercury, the sun would burn your spacesuit away and you would die. mercury is a deadly place you know (do you get it!?).

Strangely at the dark side of mercury, the temperature drops to -290 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about -179 degrees Celsius.Remember to not bring summer clothes when you go to the dark side of mercury. I wonder if there are any Siths there. Hmmm?

Mercury has the fastest orbit. It takes 88 days to Whizz around the sun. You get a birthday around every 3 months! Hooray!

Mercury’s exosphere (because it has no atmosphere) is made of oxygen, or 02, sodium, or NA, hydrogen, or H2, Helium, or He and potassium, which is the letter k on the periodic table of the elements.

scientists say that the snow on mercury is the same as the snow on mt Everest. It layers up, and deep down inside the planet it crushes into ice, just like the glaciers on Earth. But before you decide to climb mt Everest, get some snow and then take it to Mercury to compare them, and see if they are the same, you probably should know that the sun’s radiation would heat you up so much that you would burn away. You might as well just ski on planet Earth with normal snow, not snow made of iron!

mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system, witch means you could put 18 mercurys in earth and there will be a little bit of room to spare. but, you could put 1000000 earths inside the sun!
